Research Topic : Family Relationships (Sibling relationships)

Are students in SST bullied by their siblings? And to what extent?

Possible reasons for problems related to bullying in between siblings are:

1. stress that may have come from school or maybe parents.

2. The sibling might have done something that offended/displeased the older sibling.

3. The sibling might feel that the parent favours the other sibling more than he/she and
will mistreat him/her.

4. The family that is not warm and lovely towards children and parents setting af wrong example.

Sibling rivalry is one of the biggest issues as this might affect their relationships. Hence some possible solutions is to be less competitive with each other and be more understanding with one another.

On a research we conducted, we found out that most sibling bully cases are caused by one thinking the parents are favouring a child over the other. Most siblings (in the research we conducted) are older siblings, so in their point of view, they only bully their siblings knowingly, so they might also have unknowingly bully their siblings.

We have chosen this topic, as we want to find out if our environment is safe.

This is also a very relatable topic to us as we at one point in our lives have been bullied by our siblings.

This topic benefits society as siblings can learn what the other might be thinking and can understand each other better so they won’t argue or bully each other as often.

There is a need for our research, as many siblings do not know when to draw the line to stop bullying and they do not know what consequences it might have on others . Hence, our research can help to let these people know when to stop.

It is possible to carry out and complete the project, as there are many students in the school that we can survey on and interview.

The proposed course of action is logical and realistic as it can be completed with the help of some students who would be willing to do a survey and with our hardwork and group effort.

The research provides sufficient opportunity for generation of ideas, as we will constantly have to think of ways to do certain things in the project. As for analysis and evaluation of ideas, we will certainly have many opportunities to analyse information and evaluate ideas on how to go about deciding what to do next.

The timeline for the different components of the project will be decided later based on the situation then. But overall, the project will be done as quickly and carefully as we can, trying our best not to go out of point and staying as close to the topic as possible.

This research provides sufficient opportunity for group work as we will need to discuss a lot of matters regarding the project, for example who will be assigned to do what component of the project and we will have to work together.

We do anticipate some difficulties along the way, such as poor communication among the group members and lack of data. We intend to cope with these difficulties by trying to get the group to go and upload their findings and their part of the project onto a facebook page as it is one of the most widely used social networking sites.

Information/knowledge that will be relevant to our research would be the number of sst students bullied and difficulties regarding sibling rivalry .

We will be obtaining this information from primary and secondary sources, depending on which one gives more reliable and useful information.

Some alternatives that we have thought of would be to ask others for information or where can we find the information that we need.

Some problems we anticipate while gathering my materials would be that the information that we can find is not entirely relevant to our project and not reliable. Some of them are also not willing to say the truth and might lie just to make themselves look good.
